Urgent transport: two-month-old baby transferred from Alghero by Italian Air Force aircraft
The young patient, in imminent danger of death, travelled on board a Falcon 50 from the 31st Wing to reach the Gaslini hospital in Genoa.
The emergency medical transport of a two-month-old baby, from Alghero to Genoa, carried out by an Italian Air Force Falcon 50 aircraft, concluded early this afternoon.
The child, in imminent danger of losing their life, needed to be urgently transferred from the Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria of Sassari and travelled inside a thermal cot with the medical team.
Urgent medical transport is one of the institutional activities carried out by the Italian Air Force for the benefit of the community. The flight, defined in this case as “IPV – Imminent Danger to Life”, was activated at the request of the Prefecture of Sassari by the Summit Situation Room of the Air Force's Air Squad Command. This immediately involved the 31st Wing, one of the Units that provides operational readiness for these types of missions. Upon landing in Genoa, which occurred after 13:00 local time, an ambulance was already waiting for the young patient to transfer them directly to the Gaslini Hospital for subsequent admission.
The Italian Air Force's flight departments are available to the public 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with aircraft and crews capable of ensuring the transport of patients, organs, medical teams, and ambulances, even in complex weather conditions.
Hundreds of flying hours are carried out each year for these types of operations by aircraft from the 31st Wing of Ciampino, the 14th Wing of Pratica di Mare, the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa, and by helicopters from the 15th Wing of Cervia.
