Military Aviation, Sardinia: Child in imminent danger of life urgently transported aboard a Falcon 50
The child, in very serious condition, needed to be transferred from Cagliari to Genoa.
Departing from the Ciampino base late yesterday afternoon, a Falcon 50 aircraft from the 31st Wing of the Italian Air Force enabled the rapid transport, from Cagliari to Genoa, of an 18-month-old baby in imminent danger of life.
The youngster, in a very serious condition, needed to be transferred from the’G. Brotzu Hospital“ all’Giannina Gaslini Institute to receive specific medical treatment.
Made available by the Air Force upon request from Cagliari Prefecture At the AM's Summit Situation Room, the Falcon 50, having departed from Ciampino, first landed in Genoa around 7:30 PM in order to embark the medical team who would assist the little girl during the journey, before heading straight for Cagliari. After landing shortly after 8:30 PM at the Sardinian airport, the child, accompanied by her father, was then boarded around 10:30 PM, finally arriving in Genoa just over an hour later.
After landing, the patient continued her journey by ambulance to the destination hospital facility. Falcon 50 it has instead returned to Ciampino, becoming immediately available for possible new activations in support of the community.
The 31st Wing of Ciampino is one of the Air Force Units that carries out operational readiness service for this type of mission, along with the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa, until 14th Practice Wing of Pratica di Mare and helicopters of the 15th Air Wing of Cervia, located throughout the national territory. The Flight Departments are available to the public 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with vehicles and crews capable of operating, even in complex meteorological conditions, to ensure the urgent transport not only of people in imminent danger of life, but also of organs, medical teams or, as in the case of C-130 J aircraft of the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa, also of ambulances, thus significantly reducing transport times.
