The patient was urgently transported from Reggio Calabria to Bari by the aircraft originating from Ciampino.
On the evening of Sunday 4th February, a Falcon 900 from the 31st Wing of Ciampino urgently transported a 61-year-old man, in imminent danger of life (IDL), from Reggio Calabria airport to Bari Palese airport.
The flight was activated at the request of the Prefecture of Reggio Calabria to the Summit Situation Room of the Air Squad Command, the operational room of the Italian Air Force which, among its functions, also includes ordering and managing these types of missions. To shorten the patient transfer time from the Hospital of Locri (RC) to the Polyclinic of Bari, the 31st Wing, one of the Units that carries out operational readiness service, was immediately involved.
Emergency medical transport is one of the institutional activities that the Air Force carries out in service of the community. The Air Force operational units are available to the public 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with aircraft and crews capable of ensuring the transport of patients, organs, medical teams, and ambulances, even in complex weather conditions.
Hundreds of flight hours are carried out each year for this type of operation, by aircraft from the 31st Wing of Ciampino, the 14th Wing of Pratica di Mare, the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa and by helicopters from the 15th Wing of Cervia.
