Italian Air Force: life-saving flight of an F900 from Lecce to Bologna
The aircraft of the 31st Wing from Ciampino transported a 48-year-old patient, in life-threatening condition, to the Sant'Orsola Polyclinic.
The urgent medical transport of a man in imminent danger of life concluded around 10.40 pm on Friday, February 2nd. He was accompanied from Lecce to Bologna by a Falcon 900 from the 31st Wing of Ciampino.
At the request of the Prefecture of the Puglian city, to the Summit Situations Room of the Air Force Command – the operational room of the Italian Air Force which also has the function of arranging and managing these types of missions for the benefit of citizens – the aircraft departed from Rome-Ciampino Airport bound for Lecce, to embark the patient and the medical team from the Santa Caterina Novella Hospital in Galatina. The flight then took off again towards Bologna Airport, where, upon its arrival, a waiting ambulance escorted the passengers to the Sant’Orsola Polyclinic.
Emergency aeromedical transport is one of the institutional activities that the Air Force carries out in the service of the community. The 31st Wing is one of the units that carries out operational readiness for this type of mission. The Air Force’s flying units are available to the public 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with aircraft and crews capable of ensuring the transport of patients, organs, medical teams, and ambulances, even in complex weather conditions.
Hundreds of flying hours are carried out each year for these types of operations by aircraft from the 31st Wing of Ciampino, the 14th Wing of Pratica di Mare, the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa, and by helicopters from the 15th Wing of Cervia.
