The ceremony of presentation of the new coat of arms was presided over by the Logistic Commander. The coat of arms, recently approved by the Air Staff, is framed in a Saxon shield with a blue background, recalling the colors of the sky, with a red border, the color of logistics, identical to that of the Logistic Command.
In the upper right quadrant is depicted a yellow star, similar to the rose of the winds, inherited from the dissolved Logistics Inspectorate to represent the omnidirectional and universal nature of the logistics function and loaded with a natural red ruby as the axis around which the logistics action revolves. The star recalls that of the Logistics Command but is represented in reduced scale as a testament to the 2nd Division’s affiliation with the High Command.
At the center of the emblem is depicted a stylized celestial blue wing, inspired by that of Leonardo da Vinci, emblematic of belonging to the Arma Azzurra and of dedication to technique and ingenuity. The wing, in fact, reminds us of the vastness of the subjects and achievements of the genius of Leonardo, from studies on flight to launching machines, which well represent the numerous activities carried out by the 2nd Division.
In the upper edge of the wing, moreover, the Tricolore is depicted, as a reminder of the homeland, the State and the Institutions; while, in the fourth lower left, a stylized ivory head is represented with tusks and a raised proboscis. The elephant was chosen as a universally recognized symbol of logistics.
