The structure of this aircraft was entirely wooden with fabric covering. Two truss beams supported the wooden and steel tube tailplanes. The airframe was biplane.
Deliveries to the 1st Assault Squadron began in July 1915, but full operational capability was only achieved slowly.
Two Ca.36s (a version of the Ca.3 with a wing that could be dismantled in sections for easier transport), both restored, are preserved at the MUSAM in Vigna di Valle and the National Museum of the USAF in Dayton.
