A granddaughter and a meteorologist grandfather, a retired Air Force colonel. A book written by him is about to go to print, telling the story of meteorology in Italy: the very one you will read in these pages, and which the young woman has the privilege of knowing in advance. A simple and very human fictional story forms the backdrop to a historical and technical dissertation that retraces a long and adventurous journey, made possible over the years by the contribution of many men and women. A milestone in this journey is the establishment of the Office of Omens, the hundredth anniversary of which was celebrated in 2025. Much ground has been covered, leading right up to the present day. Many challenges remain open, and objectives lie ahead in an inevitably complex future, despite the new and surprising technologies available.
