The regular attendees of the Air Force Academy in Pozzuoli obtain a MASTER'S DEGREE in Sciences of Aerospace Systems for Defence, Engineering (Aerospace, Electronics, Structural and Geotechnical or Telecommunications), Law, Medicine and Surgery, depending on the chosen role, with prospects for managerial careers.
After approximately 5 years at the Academy and flight training at schools in Italy or abroad, the pilot is assigned to an Operational Squadron. Assignment to a specific flight line will depend on performance and the Armed Force's needs…… The pilot's role is determined by the flight line (fighter, transport, helicopter) to which they are assigned. The fighter pilot ensures the surveillance and defence of national and Euro-Atlantic airspace every day. The transport pilot is employed on missions for medical transport, personnel and material transport, air-to-air refuelling, reconnaissance, and surveillance. The rotary-wing (helicopter) pilot handles Search and Rescue, personnel transport, recovery of people in crisis areas, and air support for special operations. Regardless of their flying background, the pilot can be deployed in Italy and on missions outside national borders.
Entry into the Armed Forces through the competition for the Normal Academy Roles involves obtaining a Master's degree in “Aerospace Systems Science for Defence” and flight training to obtain a Military Pilot's licence. During the career profile, specific advanced training courses are carried out as preparation for holding management positions within the Armed Forces.
Upon obtaining their Military Pilot's Licence, Academy pilots are assigned to a specific Operational Squadron depending on the flight path they have been directed towards. Here they will assume duties and advance in rank until the end of their flying career. The career profile involves taking on a series of roles and attending various professional qualification courses which, after approximately twenty years from entering the Academy, will lead them to assume leadership positions within the Armed Force. The highest rank achievable is that of Air Chief Marshal.
