Ansaldo A.300

Two-seater biplane reconnaissance aircraft, tractor propeller, single-engine.

The Ansaldo A.300 was tested in 1918 and likely took its name from the power of its engine: a 300 horsepower Fiat A.12 bis.

In 1920, one example took part in the air show combined with the Antwerp Olympics.

The first Italian military contract was signed on 20 October 1922 and provided for the delivery of 12 examples in the A.300/4 version. While maintaining the structure of previous models, it was distinguished by its reduced wing surface with ailerons on the lower planes only. Furthermore, it mounted a Lewis machine gun in the rear cockpit.

On 1 July 1927, there were 401 A.300s, six of which were assigned to 37th Squadron in Tobruk.

The A.300s were replaced by the Ro.1 in the course of 1931.
