Designed by Raymond Blaylock as a “scout-bomber” (reconnaissance bomber, with the 'B' omitted in Italy because the peace treaty prohibited the possession of bombers), the Helldiver was a bCarrier-borne, reconnaissance-bomber, all-metal with fabric-covered control surfaces, single-engine, low-wing monoplane.
It arrived in Italy in 1950, specifically in Brindisi, to establish a modern anti-submarine specialisation. Other examples arrived in 1952.
He was struck off the register in 1959.
