The M.39 was a strut-braced low-wing monoplane with fairing struts. It had an all-wooden structure with a rear semi-monocoque fuselage.
He won the 9a Schneider Trophy race on 13 November 1926 at Norfolk with Major De Bernardi at the controls at an average speed of 396 km/h.
The Macchi M.39 MM76, winner at Norfolk, is still on display at the MUSAM in Vigna di Valle (RM).
