The 1st Reception and Sorting Group of Novara has celebrated the 70th anniversary of its establishment

On April 28 at the Cameri Airport Logistics Zone, in the presence of the Head of the Support Services Brigadier General Pietro Spagnoli, the ceremony of the has taken place 70th Anniversary of the 1st Reception and Sorting Group.
The event, which was attended by the Prefect of Novara, Dr Francesco Garsia, and Councillor Raffaele Lanzo representing the Mayor of Novara, was attended by serving and retired officers, non-commissioned officers and enlisted personnel who have served at the organisation over the years.
Following the Flag-Raising ceremony and the laying of a wreath in honour of the Fallen, guests were able to visit the precious historical-photographic exhibition organised to honour the 70th anniversary of the Unit's existence, before proceeding with the unveiling of the plaque identifying the 1st GRS outside the Logistic Area of the Cameri Airport Command, which concluded with a touching blessing by the Military Chaplain.
“The 1st GRS is always ready to provide its contribution to ensure the operational readiness of the Armed Force both in Italy and abroad” with these words the Commander of the 1st GRS, Lt. Col. Andrea Bovone he highlighted how the Unit has always carried out its specific institutional activity without operational interruption, guaranteeing the customs operations necessary to ensure the release of materials at ports and airports in Italy and abroad as well as, as the sole Transshipment Depot Italian, to contribute, together with the other Partner nations of the programmes “Tornado”and“Eurofighter”, to the efficient and effective replenishment action for the spare parts of such Weapon Systems.
“These activities, the Commander continued, represent a fundamental link in the logistics chain, guaranteeing the full operational capability of Armed Force bodies and units as well as the various aircraft in service, including the new 5th generation aircraft F-35 “Lightning II”.
Next to take the floor was the Brigadier General Spagnoli who in his speech wished to emphasise how the 1st Reception and Sorting Group“today you represent a solid logistics reality of which both the Armed Forces and the Support Service are proud, and it is also thanks to the valuable professional contribution of the Group's specialists that the Country System today has a consolidated procedure in place with the’Agency of Excise, Customs and Monopolies for agile management of F-35 aircraft materials”The General also underlined the specific nature of the 1st GRS's work and its ability to operate effectively both at an inter-agency level and with the industrial world, proving to be fully one of the many areas of excellence utilised by the Italian Air Force in the sector of Logistics.
