Initial press release description

The crew of the 31st Wing of the Italian Air Force carried out the transport of the young patient and the medical team

The emergency medical transport from Alghero to Genoa of a newborn baby of just 15 days, who was in imminent danger of life, has just concluded.

The mission was carried out using a Falcon 50 aircraft of the 31st Wing of the Italian Air Force.

The aircraft, one of the Armed Force's assets on 24-hour readiness for this type of need, on the orders of the Top Situational Room of the Air Force Air Squad Command, took off from Alghero airport after embarking the little patient, in a thermal cradle, and a medical team for in-flight healthcare. The emergency transport had been requested by the Prefecture of Sassari, activated by the Sassari University Hospital due to the critical health conditions of the newborn.

After the military aircraft landed at Ciampino airport, at around 13:15, the little girl was transferred directly by ambulance to the Gaslini Children's Hospital in Genoa.

Crews and transport aircraft of the Italian Air Force are ready day and night, 365 days a year, 24 hours a day to ensure, where requested and deemed necessary for reasons of urgency, the medical transport of people in imminent danger of death, organ transport or medical teams.

Hundreds of flight hours are carried out each year for this type of operation by aircraft from the 31st Wing of Ciampino, the 14th Wing of Pratica di Mare and the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa, and by helicopters from the 15th Wing of Cervia.
