Friday 4th February saw, at the Air Force Volunteer School at Taranto (SVAM), the Swearing-in Ceremony of Volunteers on a Fixed-Term Service of one year belonging to 25° Corso Forcide II (Fourth incorporation 2021).

Organised in a static format and in full compliance with the Covid-19 emergency containment regulations, the ceremony was presided over by the Commander of the Air Force Schools Command / 3rd Air Force Region, Air Force Corps General Silvano Frigerio, in the presence of the military, civil and religious institutions of the territory and the Veteran Associations, as well as the families of the 204 cadets who came from all over Italy to share this important and evocative moment in the lives of their sons.

The Commander of the SVAM, Colonel Claudio Castellano, after addressing a heartfelt thank you to all those present, in his speech he wanted to emphasize the solemnity of the ceremony, remarking on the importance of the School Flag, “which unites and embraces us military personnel and all Italian citizens who recognise the noblest ethical and moral values in the Tricolour, to then turn to the students reminding them that the training course “...has made you men and women in blue, bound by a sense of belonging and the sharing of values such as passion, competence, ethics, and awareness... You have a challenging period ahead and will need to remain credible and consistent in facing daily professional and personal challenges... before your dearest loved ones, you will undertake a solemn life commitment, shouting to the sky your I swear“.

Having recited the solemn and ritualistic oath, which stirred a strong sense of national belonging in those present, following the oath recently taken by our President of the Republic, there then spoke General Frigerio who stated “Loyalty, honour, discipline and sacrifice are the words contained in the formula just pronounced, words that do not constitute a simple and empty proclamation, but which clearly and unequivocally represent the values to which each of you must inspire your daily actions as citizens with epaulets [...] The Air Force has the need to be able to count on serious, prepared and motivated women and men; we all place great reliance on your enthusiasm and your precious energy. Reciprocate the trust that is placed in you, with the pride of being part of the Blue Force and remember that you will only contribute to improving it if each of you knows how to improve yourself, having the courage to face, with honesty and conviction, the daily duties.”

The A.M. Volunteer School is the sole national training and instruction centre responsible for the basic military and moral training of the Italian Air Force's enlisted personnel, as well as their specific professional instruction according to the Mission and the guidelines indicated by the Air Force Schools Command/3rd R.A.
