Remtech Expo 2026: technologies and expertise of the Air Force at the service of environmental sustainability

In Ferrara, the contribution of the Armed Forces on the topics of environmental monitoring and the sustainable management of infrastructure.

From September 16 to 18, the Italian Air Force participated at RemTech Expo 2026, the environmental technology hub dedicated to the issues of remediation, regeneration, and the sustainable development of territories, at Ferrara Fiere.

An established presence, which represents an important opportunity for dialogue with institutions, research bodies, and public and private operators, strengthening a network of expertise in the environmental sector to benefit the entire country.

It Brigadier General Massimo Cicerone, The Head of the Support Service of the Logistics Command, Capo del Servizio dei Supporti del Comando Logistico, intervened in the panel “Infrastructure and Energy – Sustainable Management of Transport Infrastructure and Risk Mitigation”. In his speech, he highlighted the evolution of air bases towards infrastructures that are increasingly resilient, sustainable and interconnected with the territory, also through technological innovation. This process requires a collective effort from the entire country system and a growing collaboration between institutions, such as the one initiated with the National System for Environmental Protection.

An exhibition space was dedicated to environmental monitoring technologies and the sustainable management of infrastructures, curated by the Technical Control Laboratories, the 3rd Squadron and the 1st Department of Engineering.

The presented capabilities are part of the MAMBA – Airborne Base Environmental Monitoring Project, which integrates skills and technologies developed by the Armed Forces through innovations in monitoring stations, drones and humanoid robots, and artificial intelligence, with particular emphasis on the protection of operators and reducing their exposure to risks in operational and logistical activities at home and in operations outside national borders. Demonstrations of robotic applications attracted particular interest among the audience at the event.

The Infrastructure Service is also present; it presented the recent and important environmental remediation activities carried out by the 1st Engineering Department of the A.M. Corps on the Istrana and Villafranca landfills, with particular reference to the management of contaminated land and the advanced remediation systems employed in terms of Remediation Technology, In addition to the procedures shared with the local control bodies (Arpav, Province).
