Press Release No. 13/2016 SARDINIA: THE ITALIAN AIR FORCE URGENTLY TRANSPORTS A CHILD FROM ALGHERO TO GENOA The mission was carried out by a Falcon 900 Easy aircraft from the 31st Wing of Ciampino for the transport of a child in imminent danger of death. The urgent medical transport of a Sassari child, just four years old and in imminent danger of death, has recently concluded with the landing of a Falcon 900 Easy aircraft from the 31st Wing of the Italian Air Force at Genoa airport.
Following the deterioration of the young patient's health, who is hospitalised at the University Clinics of Sassari due to a serious illness, the Prefecture of Sassari requested an urgent air ambulance flight this morning from the Summit Situation Room of the Air Force Command, in order to rapidly transport the child to the Gaslini Paediatric Hospital in Genoa for specialist treatment.
Late this morning the child boarded the military aircraft which, from the Alghero Airport Detachment, was transferred to Genoa Airport. The child's family and a medical team assisted him during the journey.
Missions of this type require the utmost speed, and the Air Force, through its Flying Departments, provides aircraft and crews ready to take off 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, without interruption and capable of operating in any weather condition. The unique capability of Air Force aircraft to carry specific medical and healthcare teams and equipment, such as incubators or even ambulances, as in the case of the aircraft of the 46th Air Brigade in Pisa, also allows patients and doctors to reach the most suitable healthcare facilities for their needs quickly and safely. Hundreds of such missions benefiting the community are carried out every year.
