Engineer Massimo Claudio Comparini gave a lecture to the Institute’s attendees
As part of the activities organized in favor of the Training Units operating at the Institute, Engineer Massimo Claudio Comparini he held a conference on the topic: “The new space economy – The technological and economic impact of space activities”in favor of the patrons who belong to Academy Space Team for Research and Aerospace studies (ASTRA) in addition to a large number of students.
Upon his arrival at the Academy, the Air Brigadier General Paolo Tarantino he welcomed the distinguished guest, considered one of the world’s leading experts in the aerospace sector, and presented him to the attendees, gathered in a hall at the Scientific Institutes.
This meeting, suggested by the leaders of the Armed Forces, allowed the young cadets to learn fundamental concepts about the ever-growing importance of aerospace dominance.
In his speech, Mr. Comparini highlighted the new phase that is characterizing the space: the increasingly significant influx of private individuals that has led to the birth of the new concept of the “private space”. “new space economy“, a phenomenon that can be seen as a precursor to ‘privatization‘ Of space. While previously the field of space was of interest only to the scientific and military sectors, now the same is subject to an intervention by numerous private investors. Among the most ambitious worldwide are those mentioned above. Elon Musk, (Tesla), SpaceX (launch of large satellites, with human flight intentions), Jeff Bezos (Amazon and founder of Blue Origin) and Richard Branson (Virgin Galactic).
Another aspect that he wanted to focus on was the constant reduction of costs in operating in this sector, both in terms of’hardware Space launch costs are increasing. In fact, the phenomenon of micro and nano satellites is increasingly discussed; today they are increasingly structured with configurations of large swarms or “constellations”In low Earth orbit. The second aspect concerns the transport of people and material into orbit, one of the fundamental barriers to the development of a private space economy whose temporal boundaries are closer than one might think.
At the end of his intervention, Engineer Comparini answered the questions he was asked with detailed references to the current state of the matter, recalling the existing cooperation agreement between the Armed Forces and the University. Thales Alenia Space Italy for any future initiatives in favor of’Astra Training Unit.
The’Air Force Academy It depends Air Force Schools Command / 3rd Air Region. It is a university-level military institute of higher education responsible for recruiting and training young people who aspire to become officers in the Air Force. By attending the Academy’s regular courses, students can become Second Lieutenants in the Permanent Active Service of the Air Force, in the standard Flying Branch (pilots) and in the standard branches of the Air Force, the Air Force Engineering Corps, the Air Force Quartermaster Corps and the Air Force Medical Corps. The Institute also runs courses for Officer Cadets (Reserve and Fixed-Term Pilots and Navigators) and directly appointed Second Lieutenants (in both the Regular and Special Branches); finally, the Academy’s curriculum includes courses with a specialised aeronautical focus, designed for foreign personnel and members of other armed forces.
