Press release no. 3/2018 ITALIAN AIR FORCE: TWO URGENT MEDICAL FLIGHTS WITHIN HOURS FOR TWO YOUNG PEOPLE WITH LIFE-THREATENING CONDITIONS Today, the Italian Air Force’s 31st Wing aircraft carried out two urgent medical flights within the span of a few hours, transporting two young patients with life-threatening conditions to specialised medical facilities. In the morning, at the request of the Prefecture of Nuoro, a 31-year-old woman was transported aboard a Falcon 900 Easy aircraft from Olbia to Milan Linate. Later, in the early afternoon, the same aircraft transported a 28-year-old man from Brindisi to Bologna for admission to a specialised hospital facility. Requests for urgent medical transport, as always happens in these cases, were received from the relevant territorial Prefectures by the Summit Situation Room of the Air Command, the operational centre of the Italian Air Force which, among its duties, organises and manages this type of transport throughout the national territory in coordination with the Prefectures. Ambulance flights, one of the services the Italian Air Force provides to the community, require maximum promptness. Through its flight departments, the Italian Air Force makes aircraft and crews available, ready at any moment to take off at very short notice, capable of operating in all weather conditions and able to carry specific medical equipment, such as incubator cots, or even an ambulance, as in the case of the aircraft of the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa. Over the past year, more than 450 flight hours were carried out to provide assistance to over 200 people in difficulty or in imminent danger of their lives.
