Press Release No. 1/2017 ITALIAN AIR FORCE: EMERGENCY MEDICAL TRANSPORT FROM SARDINIA A 63-year-old patient in imminent danger of death has just been transferred from Olbia to Linate. A Falcon 900 aircraft from the Italian Air Force's 31st Wing conducted an emergency medical transport from Olbia Airport to Milan-Linate Airport for a 63-year-old male patient. The patient was rapidly transferred to the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, where he will undergo delicate cardiac surgery. After the patient disembarked, the aircraft immediately took off for Ciampino Air Base, the home of the 31st Wing, where it will resume its normal stand-by duties. The request for support was received from the Prefecture of Nuoro by the Summit Situations Room of the Air Squadron Command, the Italian Air Force's operations room which, among its responsibilities, organises and manages these types of transports throughout Italy, including the islands, in coordination with Prefectures, Hospitals, and the Prime Minister's Office. Italian Air Force crews and transport aircraft are ready day and night to ensure, when requested and deemed necessary due to urgency, the medical transport of individuals in imminent danger of death. Thousands of flight hours are completed every year by aircraft from the 31st Wing of Ciampino, the 14th Wing of Pratica di Mare, and the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa, assets that are always at the forefront in emergencies.
