The aircraft of the 46th Air Brigade directly embarked the ambulance with the young patient, allowing for her subsequent transfer to the A. Gemelli University Polyclinic.

The emergency medical transport of a two-year-old girl, who due to a serious illness required immediate transfer from the Sassari Civil Hospital to the A. Gemelli University Polyclinic in Rome, concluded this afternoon.

The life-saving air mission was carried out by a crew from the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa, who used a C-130J aircraft. This particular Italian Air Force asset allows for the direct boarding of a medical vehicle inside the cargo hold, a fundamental technical requirement to ensure the continuity of medical care and the utmost promptness in transferring the young patient.

The emergency flight was activated at the request of the Prefecture of Sassari, which identified the child's imminent danger to life. The transport, as is the case for this type of public utility activity, was authorised by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the body that manages and coordinates the activities of the State aircraft fleet.

The C-130J took off from Pisa base and reached Alghero airport. At the Sardinian airport, the ambulance was boarded, inside which the child travelled under the constant care of a specialist medical team and her own family. Subsequently, the aircraft landed at Rome Ciampino airport, from where the ambulance continued its journey to a hospital in the capital. Once the rescue mission was concluded, the C-130J returned to its Tuscan base to resume normal operational readiness service.

Rapid intervention is made possible by the constant operational readiness and operational flexibility of the Italian Air Force's Flight Departments, whose crews are ready to take off 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, to safeguard the public. The service, which covers the entire national territory, including the islands, is provided promptly when the speed of transfer proves to be the crucial factor in saving a human life.
