The crew from the 80th SAR (Search and Rescue) Centre deployed 55 water drops, containing the blaze and preventing damage to the military base's infrastructure.

This afternoon, a HH-139A helicopter of the 80th SAR Centre of the Italian Air Force intervened urgently to counter a large Fire broke out south of the Decimomannu airbase. The fire, fanned by the wind, reached the airport's perimeter fence.

The immediate intervention of the air asset and ground personnel made it possible to contain the fire before it could threaten the base's infrastructure.

The operation falls within the scope of the institute's specific activities for the protection of military land and training grounds.

The firefighting operation required intense operational effort from the crew in an area characterised by smoke and significant criticalities. The aircraft employed, a HH-139A helicopter It operated for over two hours, discharging approximately 40,000 litres of water onto the flames in 55 drops.

Thanks to the synergy between the SAR crew and the base's ground firefighting teams, the fire has been completely contained and made safe.
