The was recently concluded with the landing in Genoa Emergency medical transport of an eight-month-old baby, in imminent danger of death, admitted to the Pugliese hospital in Catanzaro and needs to be transferred with the utmost urgency to Gaslini Hospital in Genoa for specialist care.
The flight, as foreseen by the procedures for this type of activity, was authorised by the Prime Minister's Office, which manages and coordinates the activities of the State aircraft fleet.
The activation took place at the request of Prefecture of Catanzaro to the Summit Situations Room of the Air Squad Command of the Italian Air Force in Milan, which immediately interested the 31st Wing of Ciampino, one of the Departments that carries out operational readiness service for these types of missions.
Carry out all necessary procedures by the military crew, the G650 took off from Ciampino Airport bound for Lamezia Terme In the early afternoon, where the little girl was immediately boarded with a medical team and her parents. Once they landed in Genoa, the little girl was transported by ambulance to the Ligurian Paediatric Hospital. The Air Force aircraft and crew, however, returned to Ciampino base to resume readiness service.
This type of community-focused activity is one of the Institutional tasks carried out by the Air Force. The Flying Departments are available to the public 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with vehicles and crews able to operate, even in complex weather conditions, to ensure the urgent transport not only of people in imminent danger of death, but also of organs, medical teams or ambulances.
Every year, hundreds of flight hours are carried out for these types of operations by aircraft from the 31st Wing of Ciampino, the 14th Wing of Pratica di Mare, the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa, and by helicopters from the 15th Wing of Cervia.
