Air Rescue, a C-130J military aircraft flying from Lecce to Venice to save a man's life

This is the third life-saving flight carried out in the last 24 hours by the Italian Air Force

The medical flight of a man in imminent danger of life was completed this afternoon, having been transported from the military airport of Galatina (LE) to that of Tessera (VE) aboard a C-130J aircraft of the 46th Air Brigade.

The ambulance with the sixty-year-old patient on board and a medical team from the “Vito Fazzi” Hospital in Lecce was loaded onto the military aircraft.

The transport request was received by the Prefecture of Lecce at the Top Situation Room of the Air Squad Command, the operations room of the Italian Air Force which has among its tasks that of organising and managing this type of transport throughout the national territory. The one just completed is the third urgent medical flight carried out over this busy weekend by Air Force crews.

Just before 12:00, the C-130J took off from Pisa, home of the 46th Air Brigade, heading for Galatina (Lecce), where ambulance loading operations were carried out immediately after landing.

Having departed from the Salento town, the aircraft landed at around 16:15 at the “Marco Polo” airport in Tessera (Venice), from where the man was immediately transferred to the Padua University Hospital.

The flight units of the Italian Air Force are at the disposal of the community every single day of the year, with assets and crews capable of operating with the utmost promptness, even in complex weather conditions, to ensure the urgent transport not only of people in imminent danger of life, but also of organs, medical teams or, as in the case of the C130J aircraft of the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa, ambulances.
