A newborn baby, in imminent danger of life, travelled on board an aircraft. G650 of the 31st Wing of the Italian Air Force.
The urgent medical transport of a one-month-old baby, in imminent danger of life, has just concluded. The infant was transferred from Lamezia Terme to Naples-Capodichino aboard an Air Force G650 aircraft.
The flight, as per the procedures for this type of activity, has been authorised by the Prime Minister's Office, which manages and coordinates the activities of the State aircraft fleet.
The activation occurred at the request of the Prefecture of Catanzaro to the Summit Situations Room of the Air Squad Command of Milan of the Italian Air Force, which immediately involved the 31st Wing of Ciampino, one of the Units that carries out standby service for these types of missions.
The child, in imminent danger of life, needed to be urgently transferred from the Dulbecco Hospital in Catanzaro to the Santobono Hospital in Naples. With the aid of a special incubator, the young patient, constantly monitored, was assisted in flight by a medical team.
After all necessary procedures were carried out by the military crew, the G650 took off from Ciampino Airport bound for Lamezia Terme in the early afternoon, where the child was immediately boarded. After landing at Naples-Capodichino Airport, which occurred shortly after 4:00 PM, an ambulance provided for the subsequent transfer to the hospital facility for admission.
This type of community support activity is one of the institutional tasks carried out by the Air Force. Flying Units are available to the community. 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with aircraft and crews capable of operating, even in complex weather conditions, to ensure the urgent transport not only of people in imminent danger of death, but also of organs, medical teams or ambulances.
Every year, hundreds of flight hours are carried out for this type of intervention by aircraft from 31st Wing of Ciampino, of 14th Practice Wing of Pratica di Mare, of 46th Air Brigade of Pisa from the helicopters of the 15th Air Wing of Cervia.
