The operation was carried out by embarking the ambulance onto the C-130J aircraft.

An emergency medical transport for a 44-year-old man, in imminent danger of death, was concluded last night, carried out with a C-130J aircraft from the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa.

The patient required immediate transfer to the “P. Giaccone” University Hospital Polyclinic in Palermo, a facility suitable for treating their condition.

The urgent flight was activated, at the request of the Prefecture of Trapani, by the Summit Situation Room of the Air Squad Command – the operational room of the Air Force – which immediately involved the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa, one of the units on operational readiness for this type of mission.

The operational procedures have been completed. The aircraft took off from Pisa Airport bound for Pantelleria, where the ambulance carrying the man, monitored by the medical team and accompanied by a family member, was loaded onto the aircraft. Subsequently, the aircraft reached Palermo Airport, where the ambulance proceeded to the designated hospital facility for admission.

The flight, as is the case for this type of activity, was authorised by the Prime Minister's Office, which manages and coordinates the activities of the State aircraft fleet.

Urgent medical transport missions are one of the institutional tasks of the Air Force, which ensures its availability 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, for the transport of patients in life-threatening conditions, organs, medical teams, and ambulances, even in complex weather conditions. Every year, hundreds of flight hours are dedicated to this service by aircraft from the 31st Wing of Ciampino, the 14th Wing of Pratica di Mare, the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa, and by helicopters from the 15th Wing of Cervia.
