The military intervened, on New Year's Eve, in synergy with the technicians of the National Corps
Alpine and Speleological Rescue Lazio for the recovery of four missing hikers along the
path of Monte La Brecciosa, near Valico delle Scalelle, in the municipal territory of
Pescosolido, in the province of Frosinone.
The four young people, all nineteen years old, became stranded during the hike due to the
sudden drop in temperatures, the presence of snow and ice on the route, and
it being impossible to descend safely. After the call for help, the CNSAS has
immediately activated a ground team that undertook the approach along the path
in nighttime conditions.
Once reached, the Alpine Rescue technicians found a state of severe
hypothermia of hikers, as well as particularly critical environmental conditions
characterised by low temperatures and a frozen bottom. Given the situation and the need
for a quick and safe recovery, the Lazio Alpine and Speleological Rescue, within the framework of
consolidated inter-force cooperation, requested the support of the Rescue Coordination
Aerospace Operations Command Centre of Poggio Renatico.
The RCC arranged for the intervention of a helicopter from the 85th SAR Centre of the 15th Wing, which took off
from Pratica di Mare base. The helicopter carried out the rescue of the four hikers,
transporting them to Sora Hospital for necessary medical assessments and treatment. In a

The Italian Air Force, through the SAR Centres of the 15th Wing located throughout the country,
ensures 24-hour search and rescue services for the community, contributing
daily to the safeguarding of human life, in synergy with the other Administrations of
State. The Italian Air Force's flight units are capable of ensuring the transport of patients,
organs, medical teams and ambulances, even in complex weather conditions. They are
hundreds of flight hours are carried out each year for this type of intervention, as well as by
helicopters of the 15th Wing of Cervia, from aircraft of the 31st Wing of Ciampino, of the 14th Wing of
Pratica di Mare and the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa.
