On Friday 21st May, the young people from Turin who flew with the Air Force receive a greeting from the pilots of the Flying Boat Center.
This initiative, promoted by the Air Staff in agreement with the Ministry of Education, University and Research and carried out by the A.M. Windplane Flight Center in Guidonia, aims to promote aeronautical culture among the country’s youth through a series of theoretical and practical lessons on the use of the aircraft.
The Course, the third and final one scheduled for the year 2010, began on Monday, May 10, and saw 281 young people between the ages of 16 and 20 from the City of Turin participate, following a series of lectures on the principles of aeronautics, propulsion, flight maneuvers, flight safety, and flight instruments over the first three days, for a total of approximately 10 hours.
At the end of the theoretical phase, the attendees took a written test (multiple-choice quiz) on the topics covered in the lessons. On Friday 14 May, at the ‘Torino Aeritalia’ Airport, the initiative was presented to the local civil authorities, with the welcome participation of the media.
On Monday 17 May, the young people who joined the initiative arrived at the airport to practically experience the knowledge they had acquired, flying S.208/M aircraft over the Piedmont region, alongside Instructor Pilots from the Flying Boat Centre. In three days, the Flying Boat Centre A.M. carried out 96 sorties, equivalent to over 45 hours of flight.
At the closing ceremony, the first-place winners of the course were awarded prizes, while all the participating students were issued a certificate of attendance that can lead to credits and merit points in certain competitions for recruitment into the Air Force.
Major Vincenzo Costaiola, Commander of the A.M. Sailing Flight Center, thanked the airport and city authorities who, with their active and irreplaceable collaboration, made the course a success and, in particular, the young participants who were the true protagonists of the initiative, distinguished for the passion and interest shown in the activities carried out.
