Lt Col Lant, present at the BIT in Milan, was interviewed on Thursday 18th February and answered viewers' questions Multimedia Contributions Video: Corriere.it – Video chat of Thursday 18th February – Part 1 Video: Corriere.it – Video chat of Thursday 18th February - Part 2 Lieutenant-Colonel Marco Lant took over from Lieutenant-Colonel Massimo Tammaro on Thursday 11 February as Commander of the 313th Aerobatic Training Group. Lieutenant-Colonel Lant was born in Udine in 1971. From 1990 to 1994, he attended the ‘Marte IV’ course at the Air Force Academy in Pozzuoli (Naples), upon completion of which he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Air Force, in the role of Standard Navigator. He obtained his aeroplane pilot’s licence on the SF-260 at the 70th Wing in Latina in 1990 and his military pilot’s licence on the Northprop T-38 at Sheppard Air Base (Texas, USA) in 1995. Assigned to the fighter wing, he attended the Operational Conversion Course on the Tornado fighter-bomber at Cottesmore Air Base (United Kingdom). In 1996, with the rank of Lieutenant, he was posted to the 154th Group of the 6th Wing at Ghedi (Brescia), where he attained the required operational qualifications on the Tornado and subsequently assumed command of the 395th Squadron. In 2000, with the rank of Captain, he was posted to the 313th “Frecce Tricolori” Aerobatic Training Group ‘Frecce Tricolori’, where in 2001 he qualified as an Aerobatics Specialist Instructor and in 2008 as a CBR Operational Tactics Specialist Instructor. Within the Group, he subsequently held the following posts: Head of the Operations Unit and Head of the Operations Section, whilst within the formation he flew as 2nd Tail End (Pony 9), 2nd Left Wingman (Pony 7), 1st Left Wingman (Pony 2) and Formation Leader (Pony 1), flying in a total of over 200 air shows in Italy and abroad. He has logged 3,400 flying hours on SF-260 and MB-339 aircraft (in both the A and PAN versions), as well as on T-37, T-38 and Tornado aircraft. He has been awarded the Silver Military Aviation Medal for Long-Distance Flight, the Silver Cross for Length of Service, the NATO Medal for operations in the former Yugoslavia, the Bronze War Badge for the ‘Allied Force’ and ’Deliberate Force’ operations in the fighter speciality, the First Class Training Medal of the Syrian Arab Republic and the Russian Silver Military Pilot Badge. He holds a degree in Aeronautical Sciences from the Federico II University of Naples.
