On Thursday 25 November, in the presence of the Commander of AM/3rd RA Schools, a moment of reflection on values and characters who brought Florence the highest recognition took place. After the address of greeting by the Commander of ISMA, Brigadier General Claudio Salerno, Rosa Maria Di Giorgi, Councilor for Public Education of the municipality of Florence, took the floor and delivered a presentation on the educational paths for civic training in Florence. Subsequently, Prof. Valdo Spini, President of the Council Committee on Institutional Affairs of the Florentine municipality, intervened, addressing ‘the Case of Radio Cora’: this is an experience in which a small number of people, all civilians except for Captain Italo Piccagli (who served at the then School of Applied Flight), fought the fierce German and fascist police using a radio transmitter, managing to establish a network of connections and thus providing the Allies with extensive information about the German positions. At ‘Radio Cora’, at the end of the event, a film of approximately one hour was also projected, which aroused considerable interest among the audience. The second speaker was Dr. Eugenio Giani, President of the Florence City Council, who presented the topic ‘Florence wounded, the days of resistance’ and then General Preziosa intervened, who emphasized the need today to have as a reference values that are universally recognized and that Captain Italo Piccagli, a soldier and patriot awarded the highest military valor recognition, is one of the examples bearing indelible virtues such as strength, love of homeland and respect, and who has contributed to writing another page of Italian history.
