An Italian Air Force Falcon 900 aircraft has carried out two emergency medical flights within a few hours of each other. The transport, made necessary to guarantee the patient immediate hospitalisation, was requested by the Prefecture of Pisa to the Situation Room of the Air Force General Staff, which immediately arranged the medical flight using an aircraft of the 31st Wing of Ciampino (Rome).
The Falcon 900, which landed at around 23:07 at Cagliari-Elmas “Mario Mameli” Airport, embarked the patient, accompanied by a family member and a medical team from the “Brotzu” Hospital in Cagliari, and took off at around 23:44 for Pisa “San Giusto” Airport, where the patient was transferred to the specialist hospital facility.
On Saturday 17 December, the medical team from the “Brotzu” Hospital in Cagliari, having embarked the previous night to perform an organ retrieval at the civil hospital in Grosseto, was flown back urgently to Elmas.
The transport was requested by the Prefecture of Cagliari to the Situation Room of the Air Force Staff to ensure the medical team's immediate return to Sardinia.
The Falcon 900, which took off from Grosseto at approximately 04:30, landed at around 05:20 at Cagliari-Elmas airport, where the medical team was promptly transferred to the Cagliari hospital. Cagliari-Elmas airport currently represents, for the whole of southern Sardinia, the most frequently used airport for this type of flight, as it is close to the main facilities
hospital of the regional capital and capable of ensuring, with its own staff, adequate assistance to transiting aircraft and crews, with quick and safe access to the flight line for ambulances coming from the city's hospitals.
