From the 1st to the 5th of February, the students of the ‘Bora’ course, accompanied by Col. Caroselli, were welcomed upon their arrival by Col. Strozza, Commander of the Agency. During the visit, the students deepened their knowledge of some of the Agency’s operational realities, in particular the 10th and 18th Group, which are two of the Flight Departments of the Italian Air Force that provide daily surveillance of the national airspace with F-16 fighter jets. Space was also dedicated to the services that ensure the regular conduct of flight operations, such as the maintenance of aircraft and the control of air traffic, with some hours spent together with Lieutenant Michele Cozzolino, of the Aircraft Efficiency Group, and Lieutenant Umberto Montanero, who received the young students in the modern control tower of the airport.
For the students, the educational trip was also an opportunity to learn about a region rich in architectural evidence of ancient civilizations, and archaeological sites of considerable importance.
The Giulio Douhet Military School, established in May 2006, is located in the building of the Institute of Military Aeronautics in Florence. The School is a military secondary school of higher education, which aims to train young people and stimulate their interest in aeronautical life by orienting them, during their studies, towards the activities related to it. Presumably, by February, the call for applications for admission to the School will be published, reserved for students from the fifth year of the Classical High School and the second year of the Scientific High School. The number of places available is 40 for both sexes (more information on the website of the Air Force Military School ‘G. Douhet’).
