The aircraft of the 31st Wing transported two two-month-old patients, who were in imminent danger of life, on the routes Lamezia Terme – Ciampino and Alghero – Turin.

Two emergency medical transports were carried out this afternoon with a Gulfstream G650 aircraft of the 31st Wing of the Air Force. The first, for a two-month-old baby, was carried out on the route Lamezia Terme to Ciampino, and the second, again in favour of a two-month-old baby, on the route Alghero – Turin.

The first young patient needed to be urgently transferred from the Dulbecco Hospital to the Gemelli Polyclinic, while the second, previously admitted to the Neonatal Clinic in Sassari, needed to reach the Maria Vittoria Hospital in Turin as soon as possible. Both children, in imminent danger of life, travelled inside the aircraft monitored and assisted, respectively, by a medical team and their mothers.

The two flights, as is the case for this type of activity, have been authorised by the Prime Minister's Office which manages and coordinates the activities of the State aircraft fleet.

All necessary procedures are to be carried out by the military crew, the G650 it took off from Ciampino Airport to land shortly after at Lamezia Terme, where the child was immediately boarded for Emergency transport. After landing at the Roman airport, which occurred shortly after 3 p.m., the ambulance that was awaiting the boy immediately headed to the Policlinico Gemelli for the next admission. Following this, the same Air Force aircraft departed for Alghero to pick up the second newborn and transport them to Turin, where the G650 landed shortly before 7 PM. From there, the baby was taken by ambulance to the’Maria Vittoria Hospital of Turin.

This type of activity, in favour of the citizenry, constitutes one of the institutional tasks carried out by the Air Force. Specifically, both of today's life-saving flights were activated, at the respective request of the Crotone Prefecture And of the Sassari Prefecture, from the Situation Room at the Summit Air Squadron Command of Milan, which immediately interested the 31st Wing, one of the Branches of the Armed Forces carrying out operational readiness service for this type of mission.
