On Monday 30th May, Senators Del vecchio and Bertuzzi visited the Poggio Renatico Command
Upon their arrival, the Members of Parliament were welcomed by Air Squad General Mario Renzo Ottone, Commander of the COA and CAOC 5. After welcoming them, General Ottone presented the guests with an item bearing the symbol of CAOC5 as a memento of the visit, and invited them to sign the Unit's Guest Book.
The visit continued with an illustrative briefing concerning the activities of the COA, held by Air Brigadier General Elia Baldazzi, Commander of the COA's Air Operations Centre (AOC).
Subsequently, the Senators were able to visit the operations room from where all operational activities under ‘Operation Unified Protector’ for the defence of the civilian population in Libya are managed. Afterwards, they met a representation of the personnel to whom they addressed words of appreciation for the decisive contribution of the Air Force in guaranteeing national and international security.
At the end of the visit the Senators, thanking General Ottone for his kind hospitality, commended the invaluable work carried out daily at Poggio Renatico and, during this period, the contribution provided for the conduct of air operations connected with the Libyan crisis.
