On Saturday 9th October, a helicopter from the 83rd Group of the 15th CSAR Wing participated in the rescue of hikers in the Luni Sarzana area (La Spezia). The helicopter proceeded to the affected area, which was difficult to reach on foot, and once the individuals were located using Night Vision Goggles (NVG), the alpine rescue personnel, including a doctor, along with blankets and hot drinks, were lowered via winch. The rescuers subsequently confirmed the man's death and decided to wait for daylight before moving; the aircraft returned to its base in Cervia, landing at 03:35 local time. The 15th Wing, with its Groups/Centres, guarantees search and rescue for aircraft crews in distress 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, also contributing to public utility activities such as the search for missing persons at sea or in the mountains, emergency medical transport of patients in life-threatening conditions, and the rescue of severely injured individuals. Since its establishment to the present day, the 15th Wing has saved approximately 7,000 people in mortal danger.
