A man, in imminent danger of losing his life, travelled on board an aircraft of the 31st Wing of the Air Force.
The urgent medical transport of a 40-year-old man from Lamezia Terme to Turin Caselle, carried out with an Italian Air Force Gulfstream G650 aircraft, has recently concluded.
The man, in imminent danger of life, needed to be urgently transferred from the Provincial Health Authority of Catanzaro to the Molinette Hospital in Turin.
Specifically, the gentleman travelled within the aircraft, monitored and assisted by a medical team and his wife.
This type of activity for the benefit of the community is one of the institutional duties carried out by the Italian Air Force. The life-saving flight had been activated, at the request of the Prefecture of Catanzaro, by the Summit Situation Room of the Italian Air Force of the Air Force Command Squadron of Milan, which immediately involved the 31st Wing, one of the Units that provides operational readiness service for this type of mission.
All necessary procedures were carried out by the military crew, and the aircraft took off from Ciampino Airport, landing at Lamezia Terme where the man was immediately boarded onto the aircraft for urgent transport. After landing at Turin Caselle Airport, which took place shortly after 3 p.m., the ambulance headed to Molinette Hospital for subsequent admission.
The flight, as is the case for this type of activity, was authorised by the Prime Minister's Office, which manages and coordinates the activities of the State aircraft fleet.
The Italian Air Force's flight departments are available to the public 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with aircraft and crews capable of operating, even in complex weather conditions, to ensure the urgent transport not only of individuals in imminent danger of life, but also of organs, medical teams, or ambulances.
Hundreds of flight hours are carried out each year for this type of operation by aircraft from the 31st Wing of Ciampino, the 14th Wing of Pratica di Mare, the 46th Air Brigade of Pisa, and by helicopters from the 15th Wing of Cervia.
