Upon their arrival, the two Commanders were received by Air Force General Mirco Zuliani, Commander of the Air Operations Command (COA) and of the PR CAOC, in the presence of General Istvàn Peto, Deputy Commander of the Poggio Renatico CAOC.
The visit began with a presentation briefing of the CAOC PR and subsequently continued with a meeting regarding the daily operational activities affecting the NATO Command of Poggio Renatico. The visit then moved to the operational room of the CAOC, where attention was focused on the Air Policing activity carried out daily in the context of NATO integrated defense. In particular, this activity involves the use of radar systems and interceptor aircraft, belonging to the 4th Squadron of Grosseto, the 36th Squadron of Gioia del Colle and the 37th Squadron of Trapani, to monitor and preserve the integrity of NATO airspace, against a complex organization of personnel, means, procedures and connections, both national and NATO. The two Commanders also visited the facility that will house the operational rooms of the ACCS (Air Command and Control System) program, the new command and control system being acquired by NATO. Lieutenant General Ploeger and Lieutenant General Tesniere, after receiving the Department Crest from General Zuliani, affixed the traditional signature on the Honor Roll, thanking the COA and the PR CAOC Commander for the hospitality received and expressing appreciation for the professionalism demonstrated by the staff during all phases of the visit.
