The Commander of the Combat Forces based in Milan met with the personnel of the Department a few months before the end of the “Peace Cesar” Program”
General Nordio was welcomed upon his arrival by the Commander of the Wing, Colonel Pil. Mauro Gabetta, who presented the General with updates on Stormo’s activities. The visit continued at the 18th Interceptor Fighter Wing, where the General was welcomed by Major Raffaele Catucci, Commander of the Wing. In this context, the General attended an informative briefing on the equipment, donning and emergency procedures concerning the F-16 aircraft, as well as on the use of the partial task trainer (PTT) flight simulator provided.
The following morning, General Nordio participated in the flight activity of the 18th Group flying with an F-16 biplane piloted by Major Catucci. During the Defensive Counter Air (DCA) training mission, the General experienced the deployment profiles of the fighter aircraft tasked with intercepting unidentified aircraft.
Following this, in the afternoon, General Nordio addressed the staff of the Squadron, once again congratulating them for the extremely high professionalism demonstrated in recent months, despite being engaged in an operational scenario very different from traditional ones.
The General spoke about the “Peace Cesar” program, which is approaching its natural expiration in the coming months, and emphasized the importance and necessity of maintaining a high level of attention in all activities related to Flight Safety, in order to confirm the success so far achieved by the program itself.
The intervention concluded with a mention of the role that the Department will play in the future, which will likely see the Air Wing continuing to provide the National Airspace Surveillance Service.
The visit concluded with the invitation to work with ever greater commitment, a spirit of service and a sense of duty, ensuring the mission assigned with the resources available.
