The 46th Air Brigade participates in the centenary of Pisan aeronautical history. 1911 was a year full of aeronautical events, culminating in June when brothers Ugo and Guido Antoni, pioneers of aeronautical construction, founded the current San Giusto airport, home of the 46th Air Brigade. On the occasion of the event, the ‘Committee for 100 Years of Aviation in Pisa’ was established, to which the Tuscan Airport Company, the 46th Air Brigade, the Tuscany Region, the Province and the Municipality, the Pisa Aeroclub, and other public and private entities have joined.
The celebrations opened on Friday the 20th in the presence of dignitaries, including the Mayor of Pisa, Marco Filippeschi, and the Commander of the 46th Air Brigade, Air Brigadier General Stefano Fort, and culminated with the evocative fly-past by a patrol from the Pisa Aeroclub. For the occasion, the 46th Air Brigade set up a stand and provided personnel from the local fire-fighting section to ensure adequate safety measures during the tethered flight of the hot-air balloon provided by the municipality of Capannori (Lucca), allowing the public to experience the thrill of flight for a few minutes.
