On Wednesday 24th November, Gen. Pinotti was welcomed on arrival by Lt. Capece, Commander of the 134th Remote Radar Squadron and the Air Force detachment. At the end of the visit, Gen. Pinotti congratulated the Air Force personnel and the Carabinieri Station for the A.M. on the considerable spirit of unity that pervades the detachment and the effective collaboration between the Armed Forces, as noted in the Visitors' Book, kept in the Commander's office. The Lampedusa Air Force detachment provides logistical and administrative support to the 134th Remote Radar Squadron and other military bodies stationed on the island. Furthermore, in relation to the phenomenon of clandestine immigration, in implementation of the Security Package decreed by the Government with an ad hoc measure, it provides constant logistical support to both the deployed A.M. personnel and personnel from the Army, State Police, Carabinieri, Guardia di Finanza, Coast Guard, Fire Brigade, and Civil Protection. Between August 2008 and June 2010, A.M. personnel stationed in Lampedusa set up approximately 1,500 beds and prepared approximately 500,000 meals.
