The Second Lieutenants of the “Ibis V” course celebrated “the last hundred days” of the academic period. The designation “Mak ? 100” originates from the translation of the humorous and sarcastic Piedmontese expression, “MacPie sent”, that is to say“Only one hundred days left”The name itself expresses the anxious wait for the end of the academic period, which precedes the “division” of the course with the assignment of pilots to the advanced flying schools in Lecce, Sheppard (U.S.A.) and Moose Jaw (Canada), and the deployment to operational units of the Second Lieutenants belonging to the Weapons, Engineering and Commissariat branches. During the reception, the Second Lieutenants wore their gala uniforms and, in the presence of civil and military authorities as well as some “godfathers” from previous “Ibis” courses, they danced the waltz in the splendid setting of the Institute's Officers“ Club. Brigadier General Umberto Baldi, Commander of the Academy, before giving his welcoming address, read a letter sent for the occasion by Air Division General Stelio Nardini, ”godfather“ of the ”Ibis II" course.
