A 70-year-old man suffering from a serious illness was transferred urgently on Falcon 50 of the 31st Flight of Ciampino. The aircraft, a Falcon 50 of the 31st Flight of Ciampino (Rome), landed at the “Mario Mameli” airport in Elmas (Cagliari) at 11:10 and departed at 11:45 towards the Bologna airport, where it arrived after about an hour of flight.
The patient, assisted during the flight by the medical staff of the Cagliari hospital, which arrived at Bologna airport, was transferred by ambulance to the Emilia Romagna hospital for treatment.
The Cagliari-Elmas airport currently represents the most used airport for this type of flights for the entire southern part of Sardinia, as it is close to the main hospitals in the capital.
The aircraft of the 31st Ciampino Squadron are used for state transport and for public utility missions, such as the emergency medical transport of sick people, severely traumatized people, and organs for transplantation, as well as for interventions in favor of people who are otherwise in situations of risk.
This last activity, given the imminent life-threatening danger of the people being transported, requires a level of readiness 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
