The three emergency medical transports between the night of March 3 and the morning of March 5: A 31st Storm Flight Falcon 50 immediately took off towards the Calabrian capital to pick up the woman and transport her to Genoa for further hospitalization at the Gaslini hospital. The mission concluded at 03:25 a.m. with the aircraft returning to Ciampino.
A few hours later, at the request of the Cagliari Prefectural Authority, the Falcon 50 took off again towards the Sardinian city for an emergency transport in favor of a 4-year-old child who had been diagnosed with a serious arterial-venous pulmonary malformation. Transported to Ciampino, the little boy was transferred, along with his mother, to the Bambino Gesù Hospital in Rome by an ambulance that was waiting for him upon landing.
On the morning of Wednesday, March 5, the Situation Room was again alerted for an urgent intervention in favor of a Sardinian girl of only 3 years old admitted to the Pediatric Department of the Hospital of Sassari and suffering from a serious congenital metabolic disorder.
The little patient needed an immediate transfer to the Gaslini Hospital in Genoa so that she could receive urgent specialized care.
The Falcon 50 aircraft of the 31st Squadron then departed for Alghero to pick up the baby, who, accompanied by her mother, a doctor and a nurse, was transported to Genoa, where an ambulance was ready to receive her.
The aircraft returned to Ciampino at 13:30.
The aircraft of the 31st Wing of Ciampino are used for State transport and for public utility missions, such as the urgent medical transport of sick people, severely injured individuals, and organs for transplants, as well as for interventions in favour of people in situations of risk. This latter activity, given the imminent danger to the lives of the people being transported, requires a readiness level of twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year.
