The flight activity of the Aero Club will be carried out at the military airport “G. Moscardini” on non-operational days for the 72nd Stormtrooper Wing. The agreement, signed by the Commander of the 72nd Stormtrooper Wing, Colonel Leonardo Barone, and the President of the Aero Club of Frosinone, Ing. Gilberto Dello Russo, will allow the Aero Club to carry out flight activities on days when the military airport is not used for institutional activities.
The initiative is driven primarily by the desire to spread aeronautical culture in the province of Frosinone, which has been home to a Stormo for over 70 years, an important facility of Ditta Augusta Westland, the “Morosini” Aeronautical Institute in Ferentino and the “Alfieri” Aeronautical Institute in Cassino.
The Frosinone Aeroclub was founded in 2008, at the initiative of the civil pilot Ing. Gilberto Dello Russo, filling a gap in the regional territory since the other provincial capitals of Lazio already had their own Aeroclub for over fifty years. Two Piper PA 28s, a Piper PA 34, a Cessna 172, a Cessna 182 and a Beechcraft 33 make up the fleet of the Frosinone Aeroclub, which has about 40 registered members.
The 72nd Wing, directly subordinate to the Air Force School Command/3rd Air Region of Bari, is the only basic helicopter flight school for all the Armed Forces and Armed Bodies of the State. Among the competition tasks are support for SAR operations (Search and Rescue) and interventions for public emergencies. In promoting the spread of aeronautical culture in the territory, the Stormo organizes annual conferences at the schools in the province as well as guided tours of the airport for schoolchildren and groups that request them. In recent years, moreover, on the occasion of the Armed Forces Day, the Stormo participates in the opening day in support of the citizens.
