AGREEMENT PROTOCOL BETWEEN 61° STORMO AND LECCE ASL

Military and civil health meet at the "F. Cesari" airport in Galatina

Date: 13/02/2014

Author: 61st Squadron - Galatina - Lt. Donato Chiarello

Military and civil health meet at the “F. Cesari” airport in Galatina. The protocol strengthens a collaboration process that began in 2008 and aims to improve and increase the operational training of military personnel, expanding the fields of cooperation between the two organizations involved.
Also for the current year, based on the content of the agreement, the ASL of Lecce will organize training courses aimed at teaching the military personnel of the Base the operational procedures of the emergency call center and the intervention procedures of the teams of the 118 Service, as well as specific courses on non-hospital medical emergencies. Furthermore, the healthcare professionals of the 61st Air Wing will be able to assist, in their capacity as observers, the same teams of the 118.
For the Salento Flight School, which is increasingly engaged in a complex but stimulating process of growth, even in an international context, the agreement represents a further step towards integrating the logistics activities of the Department within the network of resources available in the territory, thereby effectively integrating military healthcare into the system for managing major emergencies and standardizing, on the ground, the healthcare intervention procedures in the event that civilian and military resources are called upon to operate jointly in the territory.
Appreciation words were expressed by the General Director of the ASL, Dr. Valdo Mellone. For Colonel Cavuoti: “The initiative reflects the Air Force’s desire to pursue, especially in times of difficulty, greater integration with the social reality and the institutions, and to fully reaffirm its role at the service of citizens. Furthermore, it represents an excellent opportunity to optimize the training processes of our paramedical personnel according to modern standards, tested and refined daily, allowing individuals to acquire a valuable wealth of experiences that could hardly be developed within the ordinary activities of an airport but that, in certain emergency situations, can prove to be of fundamental importance.“.
The project was developed and carried out by Dr. Maurizio Scardia, Director of the 118 Service, and Lieutenant Colonel Davide Marra, as Head of the Corps Infirmary of the 61st Wing.
