A Florentine boy, seriously injured in a road accident, has returned to Italy aboard an Italian Air Force aircraft. The transport request, which was necessary to ensure the patient's return and the continuation of his treatment in Italy—specifically at the “Careggi” hospital in Florence—was sent to the Situation Room of the Air Force General Staff, which authorised the flight. The aircraft, an Airbus A319CJ belonging to the 31st Wing of Ciampino (Rome), took off from Brazil and landed at the 46th Air Brigade in Pisa at 12:00, after a flight of about twelve hours. The patient, accompanied by his mother, was assisted during the flight by a medical team. The aircraft of the 31st Wing of Ciampino (RM) are used for state transport and public utility missions, such as the emergency medical transport of the sick, those with severe trauma, and organs for transplants, as well as for operations in favour of people in hazardous situations. This latter activity, given the imminent danger to the lives of those transported, requires a level of readiness twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year. RaiTre TGR Tuscany of 10/01/2013 at 19:30
