A one-day-old newborn was urgently transferred from Cagliari to Rome aboard an Air Force aircraft due to a serious medical condition. The request for transport, necessary to ensure immediate specialized medical care for the young patient, was submitted to the Situation Room of the Air Force General Staff, which ordered the immediate execution of the flight. The aircraft, a Falcon 50 belonging to the 31st Ciampino Squadron (RM), landed at the “Mario Mameli” airport in Elmas-Cagliari at 09:59 and departed at 10:29 towards Ciampino airport (RM), where it arrived after about 45 minutes of flight. The newborn, accommodated in a special thermal cradle and accompanied by his father, was assisted during the flight by a doctor and a nurse from the Cagliari hospital. Upon arrival at Ciampino, the little boy was immediately transferred, on board an ambulance, to the capital’s hospital. Cagliari-Elmas Airport currently represents the most used airport for this type of flights throughout the southern part of Sardinia, as it is close to the main hospitals in the capital. The aircraft of the 31st Stormo of Ciampino (RM) are used for state transport and for public utility missions, such as the emergency medical transport of sick people, severely traumatized people and organs for transplantation, as well as for interventions in favor of people in any other situation of risk. Given the imminent life-threatening nature of the people transported, this activity requires a level of readiness, twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year.
