On Thursday 23 October, in the hangar of the Air Command/HQ of the 1st Air Base of Milan, the ceremony of succession took place. Director of the “Angelo Mosso” Institute of Aerospace Medicine in Milan (IMA) between Brigadier General Emanuele Garzia Outgoing Director, and Colonel Marco Lastilla, Incoming Director.
The ceremony was presided over by Head of the Health Service of the Italian Air Force Logistics Command, Inspector General Fabio Morgagni.
General Garzia, in his farewell speech, recalled the many years spent at the Institute in various positions, until taking on the command of the Institute, highlighting that they were intense and full of commitments and satisfactions, characterized by an openness to the university scientific world with the realization of research projects in the medical field with implications not only in the military world but with real repercussions in the civilian world. He then thanked all the staff for their commitment in their daily work.
Upon taking over the command, Colonel Lastilla, after thanking the authorities, expressed particular thanks to General Garzia “for the fantastic work done over all these years“,“ and addressing the staff, expressed his gratitude for the daily work, recalling that “The task will be to maintain and, if possible, improve the quality of the work by all the staff of the IMAS, considering the high professionalism and the peculiarities of the activity of the Institute of Aerospace Medicine at the service of the Armed Forces and the country..”
At the conclusion of the ceremony, General Fabio Morgagni, addressing the outgoing Commander, expressed his appreciation for the work accomplished, while to the incoming Commander he wished a fruitful period of command. “in accordance with the principles of Passion, Ethics and Competence, fundamental values upon which the Armed Forces are founded, our second family.”.
The Milan Air Traffic Management Authority is responsible for checking the psychological and physical fitness of personnel operating aircraft for the AM and other FF.AA. and CC.AA. of the State, as well as of civil air traffic controllers. The task of the IMA is to contribute, within its own sphere of competence, to ensuring the safety of military and civil aviation flights.
