Security: Seminar for officers designated for classified information security concludes at Palazzo Aeronautica

Information security at the heart of the two-day event organised by the General Security Department, the Italian Air Force's Central Security Body.

On Tuesday 21st and Wednesday 22nd October, the two-day update meeting was held at the “Sala Douhet” of Palazzo Aeronautica in Rome, which the General Security Department of the Air Force Staff (SMA) was dedicated to Officers designated for the security of classified information of some operational bodies of the Armed Force.

On the occasion of the event, the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Air Force Air Force General Giovanni Balestri, I would like to extend a greeting to the attendees, highlighting that these meetings are ”important awareness-raising events on all aspects of information security, given the need to protect the various capabilities of the military instrument, both at home and during exercises and operational activities carried out abroad, in the complex historical moment we are going through.

The main objective of the seminar was to strengthen collaboration between the General Security Department, which is Central Security Organ of the Italian Air Force on behalf of the Chief of Staff, and the safety managers convened, with a view to ever closer and tested synergy. The Head of the General Security Department, Colonel Andrea Marradi, at the opening of the proceedings, he emphasised that: “information security is an increasingly decisive element for the effectiveness of aerospace operations” and reiterated that: “The seminar represents an important moment for discussion between the Central Security Authority and those in the organisations and departments who apply its directives, offering the opportunity for direct contact with operational reality.”.

The topics covered are varied: the management of classified information both domestically and in the many missions abroad where the Air Force is increasingly called upon to operate, personnel security, the protection of information assets, cyber security, and the certification processes for CIS systems.Communication and Information System. The seminar's approach, which included the analysis of Case studies The discussions between the participants allowed for an update of the communication flows and a useful exchange of ideas among information security operators in the Air Force, optimising the collaboration and synergy necessary for maintaining that safety frame which allows the Air Force to continue to operate for the good of the Country every single day of the year.

It General Security Department established in 1997, following the dissolution of the 2nd Department of the Air Force General Staff. The Department's mission is to support the Chief of Staff of the Air Force in exercising his powers as the Armed Force's Central Security Authority, ensuring the protection of information, personnel, and installations. The Department includes a component of the Carabinieri and has a peripheral entity under its command, the Ciampino AM Security Coordination Centre, as well as a security structure dedicated to the F-35 weapon system.
