At the provincial stage of Athletics of the 2010/2011 School Sports Games, the students of the Air Force Military School competed against students from other schools in the province of Florence.
Following the significant performance by the athletics team in the 5th edition of the Inter-Military School Sports Tournament, where ‘Douhet’ won the fair play trophy, securing 8 medals, the brilliant results achieved in the Student Games have further confirmed the high level of preparation reached by the team. The competition seriously engaged our students who distinguished themselves through seriousness and tenacity. The engaging team spirit and determination shown by the ‘Douhet’ lads were crowned by more than brilliant individual performances that contributed to an excellent and crystal-clear success for the entire team.
In the 4x100m relay, students Jacopo Rosi, Massimo Leone Perrone, Lorenzo Peruzzi, and Matteo Massaro equalled the school's already impressive record of 44.9 seconds. In the long jump, student Lorenzo Peruzzi, taking second place, set a new Douhet record of 6.05 metres. In individual speciality events, special mention should also be made of the second place achieved by student Massimo Leone Perrone in the 110m hurdles, and the third places achieved by student Diego Bassoli in the discus, student Valerio Mattera in the 300m flat race, and student Arturo Laudato in the 1000m flat race.
These affirmations have proven extremely significant as they have demonstrated, once again, how much the Military Aviation School invests heavily in sports education, one of the most important and fundamental formative factors for the cadets who, through physical and sports practice, gradually acquire disciplinary skills and values of fundamental reference for their physical and character development.
