The 5th Flight Safety Seminar for Associations and Clubs federated with the Aeroclub of Italy took place at the “Ramirez” airport in Gioia del Colle (BA), home of the 36th Wing. This meeting is held annually and aims to disseminate the core principles of flight safety culture, such as transparency, prevention, and communication, which must be indispensable cornerstones for all those who fly, whether for profession, enjoyment, or passion.
The over 100 operators, including pilots, air traffic controllers and trainees from the southern area, were welcomed by Colonel Vito Cracas, Commander of the 36th Wing.
The event, held in the Wing's auditorium, was led by the Flight Safety Officer, the Air Traffic Safety Officer, and also included an appearance by General Landi of the Fly Safe Association and flight safety counsellors and managers from the Italian Aero Club.
During the meeting, the statistical situation of accidents in both general aviation and Recreational Sports Flying (VDS) was analysed. Subsequently, human factors and error, its impact in flight and management were discussed. This was followed by an in-depth analysis of communication and the limitations operators encounter during flight. The Air Traffic Officer reviewed the division of airspace, airspace infringements, and the importance of communicating with Air Traffic Control, especially in areas with heavy traffic. In the afternoon, techniques for ditching and sea survival were illustrated. The theoretical part concluded with a presentation by the President of the Reggio Calabria Aeroclub, Ing. Buonsanti, a flight safety specialist, who presented an analysis of an accident that occurred in previous years but remains highly relevant due to the lessons learned.
The day concluded with a visit to the maintenance area and flight line of the Eurofighter aircraft belonging to the Department.
